Differences between Web Design and Web Development

If we look deeply at this phrase we found two special parts, that are Website Design and Website Development. Both are parts that come with the web-building process. Today we are going to look at two things, how they are different from each other and how they are related to each other.

We can subtitle the “Web Designer vs. web developer” for this article because it explores the difference between web designer and web developer.

Website Design

Simply creating the structure of the website is web design. Transformation of an idea, or a story, into a visually appealing design, and use their layout to build the user experience throughout the whole website. In other term, the creation of the front or visual part of the website is the web design. Web design governs everything involved with the visual presentation and usability of the website such as colours, layout, information flow, etc. This part takes how to display content on the web, and how to make a good look and feel. Who takes responsibility to design the website is a web designer.

There are a few more things that belong to the web design as a part of the web design:

UX/UI Design (Mockup/Layout design)

If you search the standard pattern of web work, the design of UX/UI is the first phase. This is the graphical presentation of the web layout. UX/UI Design is the first and main part of web creation. This is the phase where all things need to be gathered what to put on the website, how to display, etc. This phase determines the presentation of the website. Look and feel is the leading part of the website, thus designers manage all things here.

UI Design, web design

There are many tools used by the designer to  design the layout, among them some of the known tools are:

Slicing(Transformation of layout)

This is the transformation of the graphical layout to the website layout. Here we can see websites from the browsers. I mean it is the actual look of the website. The effects on the website can be noticed here which can not be seen from the graphical layout. If the website is a static website building process ends here. Presentations of the website with various devices can be checked only after the slicing.

Simply at the development area, we understand that copying the graphical layout through coding is slicing.

There are many tools used by a web designer to design a website through coding, Some of them which are popular with us are :

  • Notepad++

  • Sublime Text

  • Atom

  • Aptana Studio

  • Slick edit

  • JEdit

  • EmEditor

  • Crimson Editor

  • TextMate

Website Development

Simply integration of the CMS (content management system) for the website is web development. Back-end development is web development. A well-designed website may not be functional unless it has a good cms, so web development is the process of making a website functional for the website operator. This is the conversion of the static website to the dynamic website. Only after the development or back-end development admin of the website can manage the content of the website as per they needed. Thus web developers are the one who takes responsibility for developing the website.
