Multimedia Files Used In Website

The use of multimedia files or content in websites is gaining huge popularity these days. With the change in time, the behaviour of customers has also changed. They prefer visual information rather than reading texts on the internet. So, currently, different types of multimedia files are used in websites.

The use of different multimedia files in websites to make the content interesting, gain customer's attention, improve user experience and let the users not feel bored, has become a trend nowadays.

The use of massive text makes a website dull, and less interactive and gives the appearance of a wall just filled with text. But the use of multimedia files in different sections of the web pages adds beauty to the website and cannot be denied to be the major factor to attract more visitors. They grab the visitors’ attention and make them stay on the site for a long time.

Only the use of textual content makes the site boring and increases the bounce rate. The visitors may leave your site without moving to the next page. On the other hand, the use of multimedia files along with the required textual content makes the website attractive and interesting.

Moreover, they convey different information quickly and in an effective way. Information that cannot be delivered properly through textual content can easily be delivered with the use of multimedia files.

Different websites use different types of multimedia content as per the type of their business. Some major types of multimedia files used in websites are:

1. Images/Pictures

The use of pictures closely related to the textual content you have prepared, makes the web page look more interesting. It breaks the flow of text and lets customers understand the meaning of your content visually.

These pictures illustrate the story of your brand and products/services in a second. Or it would not be wrong to say that a single picture can explain the fact that thousands of words are unable to explain.

2. Videos

Videos are another great option to be used in websites to grab visitors’ attention and provide information effectively. Websites use videos in their content when they need to describe their products or services in detail.

When it seems difficult to express the key points of a website through texts, when a website needs to tell its story in advanced form, or when some extra effort is needed to express the core fact of products/services, websites use videos to express them. They provide information to the customers in such an interesting way that the customers get interested and engaged in the website for a long time.

3. Animations

Animations are the trending multimedia files used in websites. Have you ever seen moving images, flash objects, scroll effects, hover effects, transitions, motion background, motion progression, etc. on any website? Those are animations.

Despite easy access to the internet and faster connections, the loading speed of websites is still a great challenge for online businesses. Visitors expect a webpage to load within 2 seconds, however, different reasons can make the page load slow. In such cases, the customer may leave the website without checking out the next page.

But the use of simple and catchy animations to indicate loading or progression may easily convince visitors to stay on the website. They get distracted from the fact that they are waiting for a page to load.

4.  Audio

Sound clips are used in websites to provide clear information to the audiences verbally. In comparison to the video clips, sound files are easy and quick to load even with a poor internet connection. These files shorten the textual content making the visitors understand the content easily and quickly.

A clear and euphonious voice plays a great role to grab the visitors’ attention and make them stay longer on the website. Besides, they should be specific because the use of audio clips for every small detail would frustrate the visitors and make them leave the website.
